A user had an issue with SecureDX showing an older version of BeyondCompare installed, even though they had the newest version according to Add/Remove programs in Control Panel. After investigating, it was discovered that BeyondCompare does not do upgrades for major versions, so the old version needed to be manually uninstalled. A link to the Scooter Knowledge Base was provided for more information. SecureDX has been useful for keeping third-party software updated on their network.

I have BeyondCompare 5.0.2 installed on my PC, but SecureDX still shows I have the old version installed. Is there a way to find out what SecureDX is looking for that makes it think an older version of the software is stilled installed?
It should normally be the version that is shown in the version column in Add/Remove programs in Control Panel.
I just installed it to see if I can repro
Is this the version you are running?
And I assume you have a template that scans for patches, including this app? And that the scan ran recently?
I just did a scan and it’s not showing any patches for BeyondCompare, which means it determined the latest version is installed
I have the same version 5.0.2 that you have. Version 5 was a major upgrade and Control Panel still showed 4.4.7 installed. I uninstalled 4.4.7 and then scanned my PC again and now it doesn’t show up in SecureDX that it needs an update. I had assumed installing version 5 of BeyondCompare was going to remove the old version 4.
They don’t do upgrades for major versions. You could see if a custom issue would work for this use case
We’re dependent on the software vendor mechanics for this
Thanks for the link to the Scooter KB. We currently only have two users of BeyondCompare, so I’ll just manually remove the old version. It’s good to know what SecureDX is using to determine when a new version is available. SecureDX has been very helpful to keep 3rd party software on our network up-to-date!
