Someone was looking for system requirement and AV exception documents for Edge DX. The documentation available on Support Controlup showed AV exclusions for Controlup, which included one item needed for Edge DX. Powershell was found to be blocked by CarbonBlack, and it was suggested that Powershell should be allowed as Edge DX runs PS to gather metrics. It was also suggested that the Edge Docs be updated to reflect this, and that sipagent.exe should be whitelisted to allow Powershell to run.

Storage Trends in ControlUp
A user asked for trends regarding storage in ControlUp. It is possible to view IO stats, though missing capacity information is not available yet. However, ControlUp will add trends as reference for the statistics reports in the Streaming project, including capacity and free space information. There will also be Disk entity reports with relevant information and recommendations. A session can be coordinated to discuss the plan.

How does ControlUp calculate the current “Protocol Bandwidth Limit”?
The user asked about ControlUp's Protocol Bandwidth Limit measurement and how it is calculated. It was suggested that this measurement may change due to a CPU Readiness problem in VMware, as the guest OS has CPU demand but the host cannot satisfy the demand. It was also suggested to check the CO-stop (%CSTP), which is shown as CPU Excessive SMP Use in ControlUp on the VM level, as well as check for any snapshots present on the virtual machine that could increase %CSTP values and reduce virtual-machine performance.

Using Insights to View Most CPU & RAM Consuming Applications Over Given Period
A user asked how to view the most CPU and RAM consuming applications for a user on a shared server in a single graph, using only Insights. ControlUp Solve Computer Trends can display this in two charts, but the user would like the same list in a single graph, over a given period, which is not possible with just Insights. A feature request for this has been suggested. The App Trends section can be used to view one process at a time.

How can I pass a second arguments in a ControlUp Automation Trigger?
A user asked how to pass two command line arguments to the ‘Process CPU Usage Limit’ script when the automation trigger is started. The answer suggested changing the defaults in the script action. Title: Passing Command Line Arguments in Automation Trigger

Customizing Widgets and New Analytics in ControlUp Solve
The conversation began with customers asking for the ability to filter applications in widgets, blacklisting or whitelisting them. ControlUp is now excluding ControlUp processes and allowing customization of widgets in the upcoming Solve release. In addition, there will soon be a new analytic report for machines with high CPU. Finally, users can use Export-CuQuery to create a workaround to get data on applications crashing or hanging.

Investigating Delays for Dedicated Citrix MCS VDI
A user reported that all applications on their dedicated Citrix MCS VDI, which has 6xCPU and 64GB RAM for running Bloomberg and other heavy apps, have experienced delay, including mouse delays. It was suggested to check the latency Last metric in the RT console, or the latency metrics via the Session Details report in Insights. RemoteDX and Scoutbees were also mentioned as useful tools to check the endpoints network conditions and latency to the backend servers. A temporary license had been applied for to test these products.

Understanding Hard & Soft Page Faults with ControlUp
A user asked about hard and soft page faults and ControlUp's reporting capabilities regarding these faults. Hard page faults generally have a larger negative impact on performance, however with more people using solid state drives this impact is not as drastic. ControlUp is working to include this measurement of hard page faults in its reporting. In terms of acceptable page fault expectations, it varies depending on underlying hardware and disk speeds, and looking at the combination of hard page faults and excessive queue lengths can help to determine if there is an issue.

Investigating High Machine CPU Equation in ControlUp
A user noticed that their machine was at 95% CPU, but the total of individual processes running only summed to 1%. It was suggested to check system sessions, and the user concluded that when adding those to the equation, the numbers almost matched. Controlup shows all processes no matter how many are running in the same session. The CPU value for machines also includes system processes which are always running, so the machine value will always be slightly higher.

Event-Based Triggers for Disk Space Monitoring
A user asked if it is by design that an advanced trigger set up for disk space below 10% runs only when the value of the free space changes. It was confirmed that triggers are event based, and two solutions were mentioned - restart the Monitors or add another event such as CPU utilization, which can frequently cross the threshold. CPU utilization was confirmed as the latter approach used.
