ControlUp Academy Alert Policy and Scoutbees’ 60 Minute Cap on Test Frequency Explained

Posted on July 16, 2024

A user asked if it was possible to expand the alert policy from scoutbees to one day instead of the capped 60 minute setting. Another user, Joel, explained that this was not possible as it goes against the proactive nature of the synthetic testing, which aims to provide alerts for potential availability issues. @member requested more information about their specific use case, which involved setting up email alerts for expiring SSL certificates. Joel suggested options such as increasing the "subsequent tests" value or checking the "Do not send a notification" option to prevent excessive notifications.

Automating Server Reboots for Monitored URLs with Scoutbees and ControlUp API

Posted on February 2, 2024

The discussion revolved around automating the process of rebooting a server that is being monitored using Scoutbees. Various suggestions were made, such as using the API to check alerts on an interval, running a custom hive, and using EdgeDX or RTDX. It was suggested that a user feedback item should be created for this feature. A new version of Scoutbees API was mentioned, which allows for retrieving alerts and writing a script to initiate a server restart based on that. The API can be found at https://api.controlup.com/.

Could Scoutbees Alerts Have a Delay Before Baseline Screenshot Capture?

Posted on December 19, 2023

A user asked if there was a way to add a delay before the baseline screenshot capture when setting up a Scoutbees alert. The Product Manager responded that this is not feasible as of today. The user then provided more information on why they would find this feature useful - they are using Scoutbees to monitor the functionality of an application, but after an update the screenshot is taken before the application has a chance to launch, causing a baseline screenshot check to fail.
