Logitech Download Assistant (logi_download_assistant.exe) Crash Rate Increases 5x Across 190+ Organizations

July 20, 2026 • ID: CUA-2026-013
Severity: High  •  Impacted Organizations: 190+ •  Vendor: Logitech  •  App: Logitech Download Assistant
Description:

ControlUp has detected a growing crash pattern affecting logi_download_assistant.exe, the executable associated with Logitech Download Assistant.

The issue has been observed across more than 190 organizations. In July, both the daily crash rate and the number of affected devices increased by approximately five times compared with the baseline observed during previous months.

What is the Impact:

This finding is classified as low severity because Logitech Download Assistant runs as a background process without a visible user interface, making its crashes unlikely to directly interrupt normal end-user activity.

However, repeated failures may prevent the component from detecting compatible Logitech software or presenting recommended installations. Organizations relying on the assistant to support Logitech software or device-related updates may experience delays or failures in those workflows.

Advised Resolution:

Logitech has not issued an official advisory regarding this issue.

Some online reports indicate that the official uninstaller does not reliably prevent this component from loading at startup.

Community reports suggest that Logitech Download Assistant can be disabled by removing its applicable entry from:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

The relevant value may appear as Logitech Download Assistant or LogiDA.

Registry changes should be tested carefully and performed only by qualified administrators. Back up the applicable registry key and verify that the identified value belongs to Logitech Download Assistant before removing it.

Additional info:

Community reports indicate that Logitech Download Assistant may return or re-enable itself after it has been uninstalled or disabled. The referenced Logitech community discussion includes examples of this behavior and potential removal approaches.

ControlUp will continue monitoring this pattern to determine whether the crash rate continues to increase and whether Logitech releases updated guidance or a corrective version.
