From overview to details in a single click
This week’s Widget Wednesday introduces Linked Drill-Down Dashboards, a new capability that connects overview dashboards directly to their corresponding detail views.
The goal is simple: make investigations faster by eliminating repetitive searches and manual data entry.
Instead of finding an issue in one dashboard and then searching for the same item again in another, you can now jump directly to the relevant detail dashboard with the context already applied.
What’s new in this episode:
Connected overview and detail dashboards:
Several dashboards in the gallery now support linked drill-down navigation, connecting summary views directly to detailed analysis pages.
Current examples include:
- Application Crashes
- Scripting
- AI Usage
Application crash investigations made easier:
The primary example in this episode focuses on application crashes.
The overview dashboard displays the top crashes across the environment. Clicking a crash automatically opens the related details dashboard in a new tab and populates the selected process.
This allows you to immediately access:
- Version information
- Fault module details
- Individual crash entries
No manual searching required.
Script details in one click:
The same functionality has been added to the scripting dashboards.
Script names are now clickable links that open the related script details dashboard and automatically populate the selected script. This makes it easier to move from a high-level view of script activity to detailed analysis.
AI Usage dashboard integration:
The AI Usage dashboards also benefit from linked drill-down functionality.
Selecting an item from the overview dashboard opens the corresponding details view and automatically filters to the selected data set, such as a specific group of devices.
Removing friction from investigations:
One of the biggest advantages of linked dashboards is the removal of repetitive steps.
Rather than:
- Finding an item in an overview dashboard
- Copying the name
- Opening another dashboard
- Searching again
You simply click and continue the investigation.
Why it matters:
As dashboards become more powerful, navigation between them becomes increasingly important. Linked drill-down dashboards create a more connected experience, helping users move from summary information to root-cause analysis faster and with less effort.
Fewer clicks. Less searching. Faster answers.
