How to Get Started with ControlUp Products

Chad asked about the ControlUp products Realtime DX, Edge DX, and Scoutbees. These products are used to manage physical and virtual desktops respectively, as well as diagnose issues, automate tasks, measure UC&C engagements, and test SaaS apps. With a 21 day trial of the products, Chad can gain a better understanding of the features. For additional assistance, Chad is encouraged to engage with the Pre-sales team or contact the Support team. Questions on using ControlUp’s Shell Execution Feature in Production

A user asked about using ControlUp's shell execution feature in production and shared an example of a script that tests a file share every few minutes. It was suggested to grant everyone access to the file share, or to create a text file with everyone having access. The user mentioned System on the custom hive not having access to network shares and requested the ability to run shell scripts under a service account.

Monitoring VeloCloud SD-WAN Routers with ControlUp Scoutbees

A user asked about monitoring VeloCloud SD-WAN routers with Scoutbees or script actions. The respondent suggested availability could be monitored using a ping or http/s test, while a more advanced solution could be done with the shell test. For deeper performance monitoring, it depends on the router's OS - for a supported Linux flavor Edge DX may be an option. Syslog capabilities and the operating system should be investigated to check for other options.

How are the credentials saved on ControlUp Scoutbees for a published App/Desktop scout?

Credentials for Apps/Desktops on Scoutbees are encrypted either in a database or with AWS-vault, depending on whether the Scout is running on a cloud hive or a custom hive. Finding Out About SSO Integration for ControlUp Products

A user asked about SSO integration with Solve and Insights, as well as the integration of Scout Bees and whether it is necessary to configure Solve and Insights separately with the IDP. The user was informed that Solve and Insight can be accessed via Solve, and that Insights will be ported over into Solve, with the data upload process and dependency on s3 being removed. An update is expected in about a week or two, and the user was advised to contact their CSM or sales team for more unofficial details.

Can Login Credentials be Passed Through Scoutbees?

The user gave feedback that they prefer the site load scout for its elements' load time statistics. A user asked if ControlUp Scoutbee's supports Okta MFA with Netscaler Gateway using the EUC scout. It does not support MFA but can authenticate with Okta. Another user asked if MFA is in use and how it can be bypassed for the user used for testing.

Investigating Delays for Dedicated Citrix MCS VDI

A user reported that all applications on their dedicated Citrix MCS VDI, which has 6xCPU and 64GB RAM for running Bloomberg and other heavy apps, have experienced delay, including mouse delays. It was suggested to check the latency Last metric in the RT console, or the latency metrics via the Session Details report in Insights. RemoteDX and Scoutbees were also mentioned as useful tools to check the endpoints network conditions and latency to the backend servers. A temporary license had been applied for to test these products.

Testing File Share Availability Using a Shell Scout

A user asked about testing file share availability which can be done wtih a Shell Scout - this can be done using a PowerShell script that checks the share and exits with a code != 0 if it fails. To handle permission access issues, a PowerShell script can be amended by adding a credential to the test-path command. Setting up Alert for Remote On-Prem Servers in ControlUp

Several users asked about creating an alert to notify them if two on-prem servers are offline longer than 10 minutes. It was suggested to set up a script to check the servers and additional metrics every 10 minutes, run a Scout to test ports for the service, or use the ‘System Down’ trigger in Console (RealtimeDX). A brainstorm session was organized for the next day to further discuss the issue.
