Creating a Public Link for Custom NOC Display Dashboards in ControlUp

A user is interested in creating a public link for their customized NOC display dashboard using ControlUp’s built-in Big Screen Dashboard feature. Other users have also expressed a need for this feature and it seems to be gaining momentum. ControlUp knows about the request but has not found a secure way to implement it yet, as each widget on the dashboard is a live query requiring a token from the user. The suggestion is to create a service account and properly set up permissions for the dashboard to display it on digital signage.

Looking to create a NOC display dashboard using the built in Big Screen Dashboard configured for our specific needs. I would like this to be available as a "public" link so I can throw it on our digital signage display. As it is right now, the configuration is a series of tabs open in a web portal that cycles through every few seconds/refreshes the page. We use SAML so I could maybe have a service account, but that might get cumbersome.

I know historically the innovation guild has used Grafana for this purpose, but just wondering if that public link using controlup’s native interface will eventually become a feature?

I know there was a backlog item for this. But @member or @member can comment on priority/timing

Hey Alex, this is the second request that I have seen for a public link in as many days. Looks like there is starting to be some momentum behind this need.

Hi Alex we know about this request but havent found a way to do this securely. Dashboarding doesnt contain data each widget is just a LIVE querie to the backend so nothing is cached. The query is done with the user signed in their token. So a public version would not have a token. Even if we could make it their would be a lot of security and RBAC risks. Even grafana gives a lot of warning before making a dashboard public and doesnt allow it from Grafana Cloud. I would suggest making a service account and setup the correct rights within ControlUp and display the dashboard like that.
