Error: “Install .NET FW 4.8 on the target machine” Upgrading ControlUp Monitors

Posted on March 23, 2023

A user was trying to upgrade ControlUp Monitors from 8.7.0.579 but kept getting a message to install .NET FW 4.8 on the target machine. This is a known issue which is fixed either by patching or uninstalling a patch (specifically ms patch kb5011048). Rolling back the upgrade was the current solution, but the user had the current version 4.8 (not 4.8.1) and a clean install worked. The KB article for this issue is: Error when deploying ControlUp Monitor: Install .NET FW 4.8 on the target machine.

Read the entire ‘Resolving Error Message When Upgrading ControlUp Monitors’ thread below:

Upgraded console to 8.7.0.655

Trying to upgrade monitors, from 8.7.0.579 but they keep throwing a "Install .NET FW 4.8 on the target machine" message.

4.8 is already installed.

There is a known issue with this 4.8 check. You have to either patch it or remove a patch, I forget which. Support guys will probably know.

Ahh, Clint, you probably know. There are two fixes: there is a specific hotfix that needs to be uninstalled, let me find it for you.

uninstall this ms patch kb5011048

🙂

not seeing that patch on my Server 22 machines. Will roll back.

What version of .net framework do you have?

We also have this kb article for this issue: Error when deploying ControlUp Monitor: Install .NET FW 4.8 on the target machine

Hey Paul, any luck?

I rolled back. Will wait for a fix.

@member I took a look at the KB, and my current version is 4.8, not 4.8.1

followup, since rolling back is not ideal.. If i do an uninstall of the monitors and then do an install it works. It seems the problem is with the "upgrade" task.We are glad that you were able to upgrade! I believe that build you were on was a private build. We will take note of that for any other folks who run into a similar issue with the upgrade front that particular version to our latest build.
