Missing the “Reconnect ” Option for RDP sessions in ControlUp RealTime DX

Posted on November 16, 2022

The discussion focused on the lack of a "reconnect" option in RealTime DX for managing Remote Desktop sessions when resolution changes occur. The team is currently exploring "Solve Actions" as an option, with additional Edge DX capability in the future. Customers are using Devolutions RDM and its "rdp file association" as a workaround for now. ControlUp RDX stands out as it allows for various credential sets and no additional tooling is needed. Reconnect option can be found when right-clicking on the machine instead of the tab. A tabbed RDP manager using the RealTime Console has many benefits, such as copy/paste of clipboard and files.

Read the entire ‘Exploring Options for Reconnecting in ControlUp RealTime DX’ thread below:

We are using the Remote Desktop feature of Realtime dx very often. However we are missing the “reconnect ” option for RDP sessions. This comes in handy when switching to different screen resolutions . Now when you have the console open and move from High res to lower res things can become unreadable 👓 . Is this already on a feature request list?

As far as I know we are working on a method to do this from Solve as the Console will more and more become a configuration only console. I’ll try to find some more info on it.

yep, indeed. if we invest in this Remote Desktop action, is should be part of the Solve Actions feature. I think @member is working on this one, so will wait for his feedback

Solve rocks so we are happy with that forecast 🙂

actually…..

thinking ahead, any ideas of how this would work since most companies don’t allow RDP outside the local network and solve is cloud?

essentially it downloads the rdp file since we can’t really do it in browser

indeed. but in the future we may enhance this whole Remote Desktop thing to work more like Edge DX (using the agent connectivity to the Cloud, once we get there…)

from a CSP view this would not be very usefull unfortunately. The gridview in realtimeDX with the tabs for different sessions is a life saver since we don’t have 1 session open at the time

gotcha

@member we would be happy with that solution I guess

I had a customer that uses devolutions rdm and they have the file association for rdp files with rdm so for them this would at least open it in a more central application

again not fully what you want but the edge dx way would also have a separate screen and it wouldn’t be embedded in the application. That’s just very hard to do from a web console

the power of controlup RDX as RDP manager is that we can use varioous credential sets ( pre defined per user) and once the agent is onboarded in controlUp we can RDP to it so we don’t have to add it to a different tool. Previously we used ASG for this but this requires additional tooling and adding servers to this.

When you right click the machine itself instead of the tab you should have the reconnect option.

And for what its worth, I’m also a fan of using the RTC as a tabbed RDP manager. Its already populated and organized, supports copy/paste of clipboard and files, etc.
