Solving Issues with the ControlUp Monitors Role

A user was experiencing issues with their security policy graying out the ControlUp Monitors role, preventing access to agents. KB article on security best practises was suggested, along with adding the service account to an appropriate role. It was noted that 8.8 On-Prem was released, containing the bugfix, and that the user would be sent a download link. Release notes were also provided.

Locked Out of ControlUp Solve Portal Despite Permissions

A user was locked out of their Solve and DEX portals due to a permissions issue. After being granted all necessary permissions, they still couldn't access Solve from the console. It was established that the user needed the "Use Solve" right in their security policy. The user then tried a few solutions, including the add-cuuser cmdlet (https://support.controlup.com/docs/add-cuuser-create-new-solve-users#), but still could not access the portal. A restart of the monitor did not help however, so the issue is still unresolved.

Setting Up Persistent Desktops and Servers With ControlUp

A user asked about syncing Active Directory computers with RealTime DX Console, and was advised to use GPOs or automated agent deployment to set up persistent desktops and servers. However, there are drawbacks to the latter which can be found in the ControlUp documentation. The Agent can now be upgraded from the console using a registry flag. Admin Rights Required for Upgrading the ControlUp Monitor?

The user asked if administrative privileges were required to upgrade the monitor from the console on another VM, and if they were needed for the one-time upgrade from 8.6 to 8.7. It was clarified that the organization owner MUST be the first user to upgrade the Real-Time Console to version 8.8, but after that any user can upgrade to 8.8 with any admin rights; and the organization owner is only required for the initial upgrade from 8.6 to 8.7. A user can be added in "AD Connections" with admin rights to override the user used to upgrade the monitors.

Where are ControlUp User Console Credentials Stored?

In a Slack discussion, the user asked if the username/password for a ControlUp Enterprise User Console on a custom hive is stored in the cloud. @member mentioned that the credentials are stored locally, saved encrypted in the custom hive local db file. For the Cloud hive, these credentials are stored encrypted in the AWS Key Management Service.

Adding Computers from Different AD Forests with ControlUp Monitor

A user asked how to add a computer in a different AD forest using the ControlUp Monitor. The EUC-Sync script, which can add machines is available, but the DNS records must be recognized. Additionally, the AD Connection needs to be configured in ControlUp Monitor settings in the Domain Identities section, which is not tied to the user logged in to the console.

Configuring ControlUp in Multi-Forest AD with Selective Authentication Two-Way Trust

A user wanted guidance on ControlUp in multi-forest AD with selective authentication two-way trust. The license is tied to the AD domain, as long as DNS resolution is available from the monitors and console, the AD forests don't matter. As the accounts will be migrated in phases, a trust needs to be set up in ControlUp. Further, the account team needs to be contacted to iron out any licensing issues. Does ControlUp Insight have FSLogix drive information anywhere?

A user asked if Insight has FSLogix drive information stored. The answer is that there are no new data uploads at present, and they should keep an eye out for a new data pipeline. Everything is moving to Solve, Azure AD setup is required for SSO and help is available with the setup at https://support.controlup.com/docs/saml-sso-for-solve?highlight=sso#azure-active-directory.

Using Get-HVMachineSummary and Understanding HZ Assigned User in VMware Holirzon View on ControlUp

In Horizon View, the assigned user of VDIs is not showing in the Real-Time console, but there is a registry key that can be used to turn it back on. This was turned off by default due to a performance concern, but it is believed that the underlying issue has been addressed. In version 9 of the integration, assigned user can be retrieved without extra data. @member may have more insight on this. Use with caution.
