Reporting Poor Connections in ControlUp

Posted on February 15, 2023

A user asked for suggestions on how to report on user connections with poor latency, signal strength, and RTT. They could utilize the Network Dashboard to report on top bad latency, longest traceroutes, plus pull data from Configuration > Data > device_status and set alarms to alert on select fields. They can also export the data from ControlUp into MS Excel for more complex reporting. Futhermore, more features are in the roadmap to expand reporting in the future. Links to two articles were provided for more information.

How to Deploy ControlUp Remote DX on IGEL Devices

Posted on February 15, 2023

A user asked about the best or newest way to deploy/update ControlUp Remote DX on IGEL. The Igel firmware release 11.08.230 includes ControlUp Agent 8.1.5.500 and the user asked how to activate this feature. The user was given advice to move away from Real-Time but add them to Edge DX. As of 11.04 and earlier, the user was advised to use a custom partition. There is a bug that prevents the user from connecting after June last year, though. The user can download the ControlUp Remote DX Agent install script for IGEL devices using OS v11.05.152 and test it on OS v11.07.198.

What Does the ‘ERR_BLOCKED_BY_RESPONSE’ Error Mean?

Posted on February 8, 2023

The 'ERR_BLOCKED_BY_RESPONSE' error occurs when response is delivered along with requirements from Chromium such as 'X-Frame-Options' and 'Content-Security-Policy' aren't met. It is speculated that Salesforce is setting HTTP headers that are blocking an action that Scoutbees is trying to do, likely due to Javascript running on the page not sourced from a Salesforce-approved location.

How Much Additional Employee Workload Can We Expect from a ControlUp Edge DX Deployment of 1500 Devices?

Posted on February 7, 2023

A user asked about the workload accompanying an ControlUp Edge DX deployment, which would involve approximately 1500 devices. Installation of the agent via MSI is easy, as Edge DX is a SaaS application with no additional infrastructure or firewall rules needed. ControlUp Academy has free Edge DX administrator courses. The deployment should take less than 2 hours, but it is recommended that 1/2 a day be assigned for safety. The ControlUp Academy course can be found at https://cuacademy.controlup.com/edgedx-info/.

Does Edge DX Remote Control Leave a Trace afer Ending Remote Session?

Posted on February 1, 2023

A user asked about remote control functionality in Edge DX and whether it leaves traces that the security department can pick up. @Member gave an explanation that the client used in the agent is a VNC client, but is secured and connected to other parts of the system via a web-socket. This means that the VNC client cannot be externally connected, thus not leaving traces.

Posted on January 31, 2023

Someone was looking for system requirement and AV exception documents for Edge DX. The documentation available on Support Controlup showed AV exclusions for Controlup, which included one item needed for Edge DX. Powershell was found to be blocked by CarbonBlack, and it was suggested that Powershell should be allowed as Edge DX runs PS to gather metrics.
