Filtering and Reporting on Users Per Host in ControlUp

Posted on October 30, 2023

The user needed to filter and pull a report on users per host, and wanted the hostname included in the sessions view. They have data in the machines view but want the ability to filter by hypervisor hosts. In the future, they would like an option to navigate to focus on a specific cluster, change to sessions view, and filter by hypervisor hosts. For reporting, they would like to export reports of users on a specific host.

Read the entire ‘Filtering and Reporting on Users Per Host in ControlUp’ thread below:

I’m curious, need to pull a report, or filter console/solve to view users per host. Would be nice if we could add hypervisor host name to sessions view. Any help would be much appreciated.

I don’t know how much I can say. But there’s something coming that’ll make this easier in the future.

Having said that, what are your requirements? Average, minimum, maximum or total per host/cluster? Or a list of users?

you have exports for users that contain machines and for machines that contain hosts so having both into their own array you could fo a lookup and combine the data.

Requirements for now are to be able to export the user sessions reports, as well as the active sessions views, and include the hypervisor hostname that the user sessions/machines are using. We see the data in the machines views, but we need it to also show in the sessions views and reports.

In the future, one of the things that would be really helpful beyond just seeing which users are on which hypervisor hosts, would be the option to navigate to the "hypervisors" focus section, drill down to the clusters and focus on a specific cluster, change to sessions view, and again have the ability to "filter" by specific hypervisor hosts.

In reporting, would love to be able to export reports of which users(session and machine info) are using the most resources on a "specific" host. I know I can get there today by exporting several different views/reports but being able to use this in both live views as well as point in time reports would be great.

Does this help?

Unfortunately not as I cannot filter by hostname looking at sessions view. Nor does the hostname field export under sessions view.
