Improving search functionality in ControlUp’s VDI section

Posted on February 11, 2026

A discussion on ControlUp’s search functionality for VDI users led to a suggestion for a search bar at the top of the VDI section, similar to the one available for Employees. The user believed this would save time and clicks when locating specific VDI users. Some concerns were raised about the feasibility of implementing this feature, as it would have to search all VDI objects. The possibility of first-line support continuing to use Citrix Director for this functionality was also mentioned.

Hi @member to confirm I got this right. You want a search bar at the top of the page when you navigate to ‘VDI – Details’?

Regardless of where we place it, I’m thinking you just want to quickly access VDI session details for a specific user. So after navigating to ‘User session (all)’ as shown in your screenshot one level deeper when you click on the user.

Is that correct?

Hi Sonny,

That’s correct indeed. I’ve adjusted it so it now looks like this.

Right, I see what you mean. It’s something I’d have to look into. By nature if we place a search field there it would have to search all objects we have within VDI. Also things like hosts, machines, remoteapps, etc… Not just the sessions.

This is also one of the reasons why I see our first-line support continuing to use Citrix Director, as this functionality is available there.
