New “Group” Feature in ControlUp Script Creation Page Explored

Posted on June 28, 2023

Users were discussing a new "group" feature in script creation that allows them to assign scripts to a role and limit the access users in that role have to certain scripts. There is also the ability to filter in the devices overview and multi select and run scripts against these. The same term "group" is used elsewhere, causing confusion, and @member was asked for input regarding customizing the group name and being able to target scripts against devices in a group or tag.

Read the entire ‘New "Group" Feature in Script Creation Explored’ thread below:

I’ve noticed a new "group" in the script creation page. What is this?

I need to check if the docs were already published but groups 1-5 can be assigned to a role in rbac and if you’re member of that role you will only get to see and ability to run scripts that correspond with that group number

E.g I have a role called “L1 support”, I assign users that are help desk employees. I assign group 1 to that role. Those users will then only see scripts that have group 1 assigned to them (you might want to not give them access to all the scripts)

Does that make sense?

@member is there documentation already for this?

i was hoping that it would allow allow us to target scripts against the "groups" have or against the "tags"

ok so it lets me publish certain scripts to the SD and not allow them to see all of it.

You can just filter in the devices overview and multi select and run scrips against

nice

This is more about permissions

no like i can do a script daily

but not daily against a certain group

Need to have input from @member on that. I know there’s some plans for H2 but not sure if this will be done

having that called group and the same term is used elsewhere is confusing. just my fedback

like the idea and feature tho

I asked already internally to be able to customize the group name. I agree

Targeting scripts against devices in a group or tag is something we are looking at for the alerts rewrite later this year, but not confirmed.
