Running a ControlUp Automated Action fails with EventID 5005

Posted on December 15, 2022

A user experienced an error when running an automated action with EventID 5005 due to UAC being enabled. The user then ran the action as a specific user that had rights to start VMs in vCentral, and it was suggested that the action could be run from a Monitor server instead. Any logs can be shared by opening a ticket or in private with support. ControlUp has a log4net script action available to investigate this issue further. The registry key EnableLUA will be read if the script is set to "controlup console/monitor".

Issues Adding Citrix Cloud Connection with ControlUp 8.7

Posted on December 13, 2022

A user reported they were unable to add a Citrix cloud connection to ControlUp 8.7 - the shared credentials needed were only present in the console where the connection was initially added. Suggestions of renaming AppData, clearing cache, and checking for a network/proxy/AV issue were made. The user was ultimately advised to submit a ticket to ControlUp's support at support@controlup.com.

Troubleshooting an Idle Sessions in Winlogon.exe

Posted on December 9, 2022

A user experiences an active but idle session they can't remove, despite trying to kill the processes in the console. Restarting Profile Management and checking AV exclusions have been suggested, as well as adding processes to Reg for Logoffmodules and using a Logoff Trigger. The parent process is Winlogon.exe. https://cuacademy.controlup.com/ can be accessed for further support.

How to set a ControlUp Trigger with multiple schedules?

Posted on December 8, 2022

Users discussed finding a clean way to set a trigger with multiple schedules for monitoring Horizon services. It was suggested to use a PowerShell script with IF logic for this. To prevent getting emails when the server closes for patching, a maintenance window could be set, with a different action taken if the service is down for more than 30 minutes. ControlUp's Realtime DX can be used to set a custom schedule. An example script was provided, which requires the user to edit it with the event IDs they want to monitor for and any services to be excluded. This thread can be added to the FAQ page.

Anyone have experience with ControlUp Edge DX & XenApp provisioned TS / VDI?

Posted on December 7, 2022

A user asked about experience with EdgeDX and XenApp provisioned TS/VDI and was recommended to deploy RealTimeDX instead due to its stateless nature and the fact that it will need rebooting to change the device ID and lose historical reports. To overcome this for Teams Monitoring, the user could install the EdgeDX Agent with a known switch, make a hardcoded link from the C and D drives, and set the custom RegisterWithDeviceName setting to be true. The user then asked if this was officially supported and if it would be coming to EdgeDX or Realtime/Solve, and was told that it is very interesting.

How to configure SBA for alerting when an FSLogix container size exceeds a threshold

Posted on December 5, 2022

Members asked for an SBA that allows to alert when an FSLogix container size exceeds a threshold. Through a configuration process the actions should be finalized and a "User Logged On" trigger should be created. An event will be written to the Application Log when a user's VHD is outside the threshold and a "Windows Event" trigger can trigger any action. An 8.8 BETA program will be available in Q1 23 and those interested can reach out to @member and @member.

Any plans to add Script Actions to ControlUp Solve like you can do currently in the Console?

Posted on December 2, 2022

This Slack discussion discussed the new Script Actions feature on ControlUp version 8.7, with a user having issues running them from Solve. A ticket with support will be opened and it was suggested that it could be related to logging in with a different UPN. More info can be found at https://www.controlup.com/resources/blog/entry/solve-issues-faster-with-controlup-real-time-dx-v8-7/.

Logon duration is available in ControlUp Edge DX from the logons and user sessions report

Posted on November 29, 2022

A user asked if there was a way to report the logon duration of an endpoint from sign-in to landing at the desktop, as well as a way to report the reboot time of the endpoint. The logon duration can be seen in the Edge DX 'Logons and User Sessions' report, while the reboot time could be reported using a custom report from the Windows Shutdown/Reboot Event IDs. The user appreciated the tip and said they would look into it.

Help troubleshooting why we can not update agents via the ControlUp Console?

Posted on November 29, 2022

A user asked why agents cannot be updated via the ControlUp console. It is likely due to lack of admin rights, but AppVolumes can interfere with unzipping files. A possible workaround could be using the monitor command, updating the .NET version to 4.8, or using an Appvolume with the ControlUp agent. The Appvolume method has so far worked successfully. Title: Troubleshooting ControlUp Agent Updates with AppVolumes

Detecting Corrupted Disks in FSLogix Profile Management

Posted on November 23, 2022

A user asked how to detect corrupted disks in FSLogix profile management when the profile share was full. Another user suggested creating a ScriptAction to be run when the user logs in so details can be captured and alerted if thresholds are exceeded. The ScriptAction will enter the thresholds into the arguments. It will be shared once finished. https://controlupcommunity.slack.com/archives/C046GSUMTJ9/p1670282169889989
