A user asked for help troubleshooting an alert to send an email when free space on a disk is less than 15GB. The user found that the alert only fired after restarting the monitor or agent. After further investigation and advice from another member, the user learned that triggering the alert requires the free space to cross the threshold from a greater to lower value, and that creating a series of triggers at each threshold is necessary to ensure that alerts are triggered as needed.

Hi all! I’m trying to throubleshoot this alert:
"Send an email when FreeSpace on a Disk is less than 15GB"
I receive the alert only if i restart the Monitor that is connected to the agent or if I restart the agent.
Am I missing something?
Hi @member – Have you tested this in a scenario where you see for a fact that the free space on a disk is greater than 15GB, and then it ‘crosses the threshold’ to less than 15GB? If you’ve watched that threshold crossing take place, with no email fired, then I recommend opening a support ticket.
If not, then I have a theory as to what might be going on here. If you have machines that are already at less than 15GB of free space on the disk, they will not cause this trigger to fire (unless you restart the monitor, in which case I believe they may fall under the ‘include logical disks that were just discovered’ criteria, and then they will fire), since the trigger mechanism is ‘fired’ at the moment defined filter threshold is crossed (AKA, less than or equal to 15GB of free space for at least 30 seconds). So if you have a logical disk with 10GB free space left, it won’t fire unless monitors/agents restarted. If a logical disk goes from 20GB free space down to 15, that will fire once. If it then goes from 15 down to 10, it will not fire again. If a logical disk is already at 10 GB of free space, and goes down to 5GB of free space, it will not fire again. You may want to create a series of triggers, at increasingly lower thresholds, to ensure that you’re getting alerted. Example: ≤ 15GB of Free Space, ≤ 10GB of Free Space, ≤ 5GB of Free Space. Then you will get notified of the additionally defined thresholds being crossed.Thank you @member! You are right, if the machine goes up and down with free space, we receive the alert. I think I will work with a series of triggers as you suggested, thank you!
