How to Add Custom Locations for ControlUp Endpoints

Posted on October 6, 2025

A user was looking for an easy way to add 500+ IP scopes as custom locations for ControlUp for Endpoints. The option of doing this manually seemed inefficient, so they asked @member for a solution. ControlUp suggested using Device Tagging, which can also help with tracking network issues. Further input from @member was requested.

Hi,

Is there an easy way to add 500+ IP scopes as custom locations for ControlUp for Endpoint.

It was "easy" to do this in the VDI/DAAS console using CSV import but it seems that this is not an option when working with Devices/Endpoints

The option of manually doing this seems a bit silly when we already have the data in CSV form

Hi @member, what do you mean by "adding custom locations" in CU4D? to which specific setting / metric are you referring to?

(unlike CU4VDI, I am not familiar with a pre-configured "location" setting in CU4D. you may use Device Tagging to specify a location, and we have API’s to dynamically create / set tags)

Hi,

What I would like is to use the same functionality in CU4D as Branch Mapping in the CU4VDI solution

If tagging is the way to go, then we will look into this

The "problem" is that the Geolocation/ISP/Remote IP Addres location is unusable for us since 99% of our machines are within our LAN.

This means that any reporting (like the new dashboards) relying on the location information is not usable.

If we could map an IP range to a specific location (as can be done in Extended Settings), the we could use the the location directly without having to rely on tags

This also helps if we are to more easily track problems related to network issues on certain locations, since we could then use the Location History feature in troubleshooting network issues based on the movement of the endpoint device

I think Device Tags is the right way to achieve this functionality, but let’s see what @member thinks
