ControlUp’s Options for VDI Utilization Reports and Dashboards

Posted on January 19, 2026

A customer has requested a high-level overview of VDI utilization over a specific period, categorized by VDI class and possibly department. ControlUp’s console and VDI REST API can be used to generate customized reports and dashboards, while new updates are being made to include VDI data in existing dashboards. Further discussion includes suggestions for using the API to create custom reports and importing data into other tools. Some existing reports, such as the Session Count report and session activity report, can also provide relevant data.

Read the entire ‘ControlUp’s Options for VDI Utilization Reports and Dashboards’ thread below:

Hi Team, one of our customer management requires a high-level overview of VDI utilization over a specific period, categorized by VDI class (desktop pool) and, if possible, by department, rather than detailed per-user information.

Is it possible to generate the consolidated visualization directly from the ControlUp dashboard rather than downloading individual user report and merging?

if you have euc sync configured you can select per pool information from the dropdown boxes. that’s 1

maybe with the new VDI REST API and custom dashboards… but this is still limited release

will ask some folks to check this internally and update

for departments it might be more challenging as we are not aware of those

They are looking for graphs for VDI usage over let’s say past month or two months and if we can create custom dashboards that’d be great.

Department isn’t a requirement, good to have though. I’m aware from console we can see this data for individual user but they want consolidated report with graphs rather than tables

Thx @member

We will look on this later today and share an update

One question in the meantime @member – how about the Session Count report? And each time filter on one relevant Delivery Group?

Doesn’t this cover part of the requirement?

that’s the direction I was thinking as well

(I mean Desktop Pool…)

Yeah they want to see session duration and idle time

Maybe share a screenshot @member .,.

That’s not available in session count

I have it

On that report I don’t see cpu usage, logon duration, idle time

aaah different utilization, I think Yoni & I where thinking about # of users

you need a combination of Machine trends & session count & logon duration reports

Exactly…

yes I did an edit there as I forgot about the logon duration report 😄

In such cases @member , the most helpful item is a report / dashboard mockup, that shows exactly what management is after (AI can really help here)

(But I think our existing reports will cover most of this…)

So we’ve to check different reports

if it’s for reporting and you might want to apply your own style you could also use the api’s and build your own report or even import the data into a system of your own https://api.controlup.io/reference/how-to-create-api-keys

Is there an option for custom reports? Or Dashboard

I am seeing dashboard tab not sure if it’s for VDI too

@member do we already have streaming data in custom dashboards?

Hi @member we are working hard on adding VDI data to dashboards. Currently it is only cu4desktops and apps. We hope to have VDI data in at the start of next month. Then this kind of data can then be displayed in your own custom

Dashboard. We also need to look into how filters are going to work on delivery group or folder path etc. So but it is coming very soon!

> On that report I don’t see cpu usage, logon duration, idle time

CPU usage of the user or the machine? Because all of those are on session activity, including the delivery group. Should be pretty easy to graph.

Do you have something like PowerBI, Tableau or some other data visualization tool you like to work with?
