This discussion focused on custom reporting needs and different ways to create and access reports. It was suggested to ask ControlUp for a road map call, and to open a public API as part of the new streaming data project. Insights (on-prem) and PowerShell and Excel were also mentioned as possible ways to create custom reports. Additionally, reports should be stored for one year, rather than having the data in two places, to avoid extra work for users.

What is everyone doing for their custom reporting needs? Insights has canned reports, is there a way we can create our own reports or have CU create reports for us? Historical reports, not just live/active.
Example:
We are getting all the metrics to show user sessions data, such as latency and bandwidth metrics. We’re also implementing RemoteDX, and those metrics will provide end user metrics as well such as ISP latency, bandwidth, wifi vs LAN. I need to be able to pull all that together in a historical report to show user issues/troubleshooting based off business asks(analysts looking at their own data).
They have not canned reports I have seen improvements in reports coming but as an msp I will always use the data to create my own branded reports but cu have listened to what I need for my reports and have provided access to the data I needed and are giving us more and better access to the data. I’m exited on what cu is bring in this area
@member reach and ask for a road map call. What u want is coming but not my place to give details
The plan is to open a public API as part of the new streaming data project. With that you should be able to build your own reports using this API. I’m personally pushing for a Power BI connector to simplify this.
At some customers I have custom reports in Insights (On-Prem!)…
We are cloud. Would really be nice to see these updates that are coming, will contact our Rep to set something up.
I agree, being able to use Dynatrace or Power BI to connect and collect data would be great. But at the same time, being able to build out custom reporting with existing metrics in insights seems like many small to medium size businesses would benefit from if they don’t have the tools/experience. But for large companies, same thing even still, built-in tools can be sold/leveraged easier vs requiring external tools/knowledge.
don’t necessarily need external tools, Powershell and excel can produce stunning reports and can be automated as well
PowerShell and Excel are also external tools 🙂
I guess Tom wants to have everything included in Solve/Insights/Reports which would be awesome and I totally go with.
true 🙂 i was think of purchase tools
Historical is important as well. Already stored for a year. Don’t want the data in 2 places. Makes the most sense for a production level tool to have everything in one place. They boast single pane of glass, that’s what it’s all about.
