A user asked about syncing Active Directory computers with RealTime DX Console, and was advised to use GPOs or automated agent deployment to set up persistent desktops and servers. However, there are drawbacks to the latter which can be found in the ControlUp documentation. The Agent can now be upgraded from the console using a registry flag. The full discussion, including the relevant ControlUp URLs, can be seen at https://controlupcommunity.slack.com/archives/C0473N33S00/p1695332008532109.

Looking at syncing AD computers with RealTime DX Console. I found this: https://support.controlup.com/docs/active-directory-organizational-unit-sync-with-controlup-console-tree Would i need something else to install the agent?
Yep. That just adds the machine to the tree.
looking to get persistent desktops and servers auto enrolled in ControlUp.
Maybe a GPO/Software Installation Policy?
or turn on auto agent install?
Although if you have "Deploy Agents Automatically" selected, technically the service account wil attempt to push it from the monitors. Highly discouraged though.
why?
Would require the service account be admin on the machines.
Why? It increases load on the already taxed and fragile monitors.
then why have that option at all?
Why have Org Members have the ability to restart VMs??? Its great for POCs and demos.
Easy Better.
are monitors going away at some point?
Maybe. First step is to reverse the agent to outbound. Second is changing to 443. After that technically the monitors could be hosted and all that would be needed on prem would be data collectors for hypervisors for example.
so, i woudl need to set up sync and then a GPO to do this?
msiexec.exe /i ControlUpAgent-net45-x64-8.6.5.465-signed.msi AUTHKEY={enter your AuthKey here} /quiet /norestart /l*v C:\temp\agentinstallation.log
Yep.
thx
but with MSI install we can’t upgrade from console right?
You can now by setting a registry flag.
