Tips for Decreasing Logon Time on Windows Devices

A team member asked for help in decreasing Windows logon time and requested any blogs or recommendations related to this issue. @member advised that the logon process for physical devices may be affected by AppX packages, but shared tips for optimizing logon duration in VDI environments. ControlUp's Analyze Logon Duration script can also be used for physical devices. Team members shared several links and resources for optimizing logon duration and dealing with AppX packages. Logon time is a key metric in VDI environments and AppX load times can be a bottleneck.

Plans for Windows ARM Processor Agent for Edge Dx?

A user asked about plans for a Windows ARM processor agent for Edge Dx. Another user confirmed that it is currently possible to run it on Windows 11 with x64 Wow. The first user asked for the download, and was advised to use the regular Windows download and run it in compatibility mode.

Troubleshooting Triggers in ControlUp

Multiple users discussed issues with triggers, specifically the event log trigger causing an error message and items getting stuck in the monitor queue. Suggestions were made to check the machine column in the incidents pane, clear the queue or restart the monitor service. It was also mentioned to check and possibly increase the MaxAutoExecQueueSizeTotal and MaxAutoExecQueueSizeTarget settings. A ControlUp team member offered to look into the issue further.

Troubleshooting Scoutbees Issues with SSL/TLS Alerts

One of the HTTP\S scouts in Scoutbees is failing with an error related to SSL/TLS alerts. The Application Events section shows that the organization is currently inactive and suggests a possible error with cipher suite hardening. However, the monitor server can access the site fine through Edge and other internal HTTP\S scouts are working properly. No further information could be found in the Windows System event log.

ControlUp Remote Shell Screen Discussion

A discussion took place about the remote shell screen in ControlUp - one user suggested adding an option for customizing the screen size. It was mentioned that the screen size can be adjusted through resolution or using the zoom button. The function works well with remote control from Mac to Windows or Linux, and also from Windows to macOS. However, some users experienced a fixed screen size depending on their resolution.

Enabling Agent Connectivity in ControlUp Products

A user asked about enabling agent connectivity from Windows 10 operating systems that are not domain connected and have no open inbound ports - with the existence of an option to open outbound traffic. They also asked if the agent is capable of initiating communication once installed. The response was that starting from version 9, both EdgeDX and RealtimeDX agents can connect using an outbound SSL 443 connection, and domain membership is not a requirement.

A user reported getting errors in a ControlUp monitor for certain machines, specifically related to the service account not having admin rights. It is suggested to add the account to the ControlUp Admin role to resolve this issue. This issue was not related to onboarding to the new app.controlup.com.

Understanding Data Caching in ControlUp

The discussion revolved around the caching of data from the agents to the monitor during network outages. It was confirmed that the monitor caches data for 24 hours in C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\ControlUp\CacheActivity and uploads it once the connection is restored. It was also mentioned that the agent does not have caching capabilities, only the monitor does. The potential impact of agent-level caching on user experience in VDI/RDSH environments was also brought up. This topic is not specific to v9 of ControlUp.
