Setting Up Alerts for SQL Always On Availability Group Failovers

Posted on March 25, 2025

A user asked for help with setting up an alert for a customer's SQL Always On Availability Group. Suggestions were made to use a PowerShell script or a scheduled trigger using the Edge DX agent. It was eventually resolved with the use of a PowerShell script that runs every 5 minutes and checks event logs for specific event IDs. No incidents are generated due to the potential scale of scheduled triggers.

Troubleshooting W365 CPC Integration and Visibility Issues

Posted on March 14, 2025

A group of ControlUp members discuss issues with the integration between W365 CPC and HDX. They note that EdgeDX does not detect brokering of a Cloud PC session, but the current configuration does show access to TURN and use of UDP. The group mentions that this may be due to the VDA configured on the device. There is also mention of potential confusion around which agent to use for the CPC Desktop, and a suggestion to pull a query to track the number of CPCs with a VDA installed and see what is reported. It is noted that there is interest from established enterprises to go this route.

Gathering logs through ControlUp Academy and PowerShell scripts

Posted on February 24, 2025

A discussion took place about using ControlUp Academy to gather logs via PowerShell scripts. Hosting a CDN in Azure was suggested as a solution. However, another user suggested creating a function instead that would prompt for the log location and then download it as a .txt or .log file. This would be helpful in situations where users don't have time to provide logs or are VIPs. The idea was also brought up to consolidate all log-related ideas into one to put pressure on product management. There was also a question about whether input can be prompted in EdgeDX or ControlUp for Desktops.

Updates on ControlUp for Apps and Licensing Options

Posted on February 12, 2025

The discussion was about the new feature ControlUp for Apps. Due to a technical issue, users cannot trial the feature directly from the product. They can either wait or contact their account team to manually start the trial. To purchase this feature, customers must have either a Platform license or purchase the add-on option, with the license count matching their current licenses. The commenter also mentioned that ControlUp One may not be suitable and can do an internal follow-up for the user. The Platform license may be beneficial for customers depending on their needs.

Understanding the Accuracy of Data in ControlUp’s Reports for Installed Applications

Posted on February 9, 2025

A discussion took place regarding the accuracy of the data in the DEX and device reports for installed applications. It was clarified that the report is updated every 24 hours, or 24 hours after the agent starts. This report is set to run while the device is online and will continue to check at an interval. Users can check the data's last collection date in the index, accessible through the "data" tab, and ensure the "include builtin indexes" checkbox is checked. The index has a "created" date for when it was added and a "created_local" date for when the agent generated the data. There are visuals available for reference.

Posted on February 3, 2025

A user asked if there's a way to use ControlUp Edge DX to track slow shutdown/reboot times.
