Triggering Hardware Driver Updates on PC After Windows 11 Update

Posted on July 11, 2025

A question was asked about triggering hardware driver updates on a PC after a Windows 11 update. The suggestion was made to use a CU4D Alert to run a script action for specific drivers. A user shared a script from the library that checks for hardware device problems, but it was found that "driver out of date" is not considered an error. It was noted that Windows update may not automatically scan for updated device drivers.

Is there a custom script available that will allow me to trigger the Windows update for hardware drivers on the PC. We have a script to do Windows 11 Updates. But after the update. There are some hardware drivers that need to be triggered.

Which hardware drivers in particular? I was thinking you can setup an CU4D Alert to look for those specific drivers and run the script action that would run the Windows 11 upgrade script you created.

We have a script in the library that checks the error codes for devices (the script is called "Find hardware device problems"), however it seems that "driver out of date" is not an error (see also here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/error-codes-in-device-manager-in-windows-524e9e89-4dee-8883-0afa-6bca0456324e).

I suspect that this is because it doesn’t automatically scan this. If you go to device manager, you have to right click on a device and select "update driver" and only then it will start looking to see if there are any updates for that particular device.

However, doesn’t windows update automatically scan for updated device drivers? At least for common vendors?
