Using SessionCreationDate as Trigger Condition for Reports in ControlUp

Posted on October 26, 2023

A user asked if there is a way to use SessionCreationDate as a trigger condition for a report. It was suggested to use Invoke-cuquery and toast popup instead, and a sample sba was pointed out as a resource to create Windows Events. The sample can be found in the ControlUp Community Library.

Read the entire ‘Using SessionCreationDate as Trigger Condition for Reports’ thread below:

Is there any way to use SessionCreationDate as a trigger condition for a report ? (I could only use it by setting an specific point in time, rather than a time difference)

I am trying to send emails and friendly reminders to users that have not rebooted their machines in 7/14 days and ultimately log them off by day 15.

Thanks !

not directly but you could be create and use if logon time is > 2 s and set the minimum period for it to be in that state for those moments

invoke-cuquery could though.

“`$threshold = [datetime]::Now.AddHours(-8)

$results = Invoke-CUQuery -Table SessionsView -fields * -take 500 -where "dtLoginTime

awesome !

thanks for the input @member @member

before I get annoying, is there a way to use that trigger to send an email to the logged on user ?

I could not find a way to tie the email action with the user with the active session as the recepient.

Unless you do a lookup in a script we don’t

what we usually recommend is using a toast popup

Well, I am trying to get users to go back to their forgotten VDI session or we simply release / reboot / shutdown if they do not use it anymore.

if they are not using it, they could not get to read any toast popup showing on the VDI session

true

it could also be a 2 step thing: step 1 = in the session and creates an event with the user details and step 2 would be a script running on the monitors that gets the events for the last xx minutes and sends out emails to the users (that way only the monitors need to have authorization on the smtp server)

Great, I will take a look at it

is there any guideline or tutorial on how to create custom events ?

There is a sample sba in the community library to create windows events
