A discussion took place regarding the use of variables in notification creation based on the Citrix Connection Failures Advanced trigger. It was suggested to test a trigger with the Citrix Connection record type to see if the variables resolve. It was also mentioned that a ticket may need to be opened to gather logs for further investigation.
Read the entire ‘Using Variables in ControlUp Notification Creation’ thread below:
When creating a notification, based of the Citrix Connection Failures Advanced trigger, I tried using these variables in $(ctxconnusername) and $(ctxconnmachinename). When the notification fired, I got the variable name and not the data in the Alert. In the trigger I used the record "Citrix Connection Failure Log", so wondering if I can’t use those variables in the notification.
@member in the trigger are you creating using your own trigger template or using this default one.
If creating your own this is a good test to start with (Before building your own) to see what all data will be avalibile in the alert result and also to see if variables return null or wrong values

I duplicated one of the default ones Here is what my template looks like. All the other variables return data except for the bottom 2.

can u have this art at the end and test

When it ran here is the output. Should I open a case with support on this.

yes please we would need to gather logs on this i think,
what did u configure here ?

Here is my logic.

Did you end up opening a ticket? I am leaning towards these variables only being available for the Citrix Connections record type.

So my suggestion would be, try a simple trigger with the Citrix Connection record type. See if that causes the variables to resolve.
