This week’s Widget Wednesday introduces the new Device Health and Rightsizing Dashboard, a major step forward in how device health is calculated, presented, and consumed.
This dashboard is designed as a read-only experience, built on pre-calculated data that gives you a consistent, reliable view of device health without requiring manual input or configuration.
What this episode covers:
Pre-calculated device health insights:
Behind the scenes, backend processes run weekly (Saturday evenings), collecting data from the previous 30 days and calculating performance metrics for each device. These results are used to generate a health score, which is then indexed into the device health DDC index.
This means the dashboard always reflects a consolidated, ready-to-use view of device health.
No date or time selection required:
Because the data is refreshed on a fixed schedule, there is no need for a date/time picker. The dashboard always displays the latest calculated results, eliminating the complexity of selecting time ranges and ensuring users work with consistent data.
Interactive, read-only experience:
While the dashboard itself is read-only, it still offers strong interactivity. The grid view enables:
- Searching across devices
- Column-based filtering
- Filtering by attributes like confidence level or hardware manufacturer (e.g., Dell)
This allows users to quickly narrow down and analyze device health without modifying the underlying data.
Using the data in custom dashboards:
For users who want to extend this functionality, the underlying device health DDC index can be used to build custom widgets in their own dashboards. This enables scenarios such as alerting, workflows, and tailored visualizations.
One important consideration: using a DateTime Picker in custom dashboards may yield different results due to the source data’s weekly refresh cycle.
Additional resources:
Further details on the Device Health and Rightsizing Dashboard are available in a dedicated team article that provides deeper insight into how the data is calculated and how to use it effectively.
Why it matters:
This dashboard simplifies how device health is consumed. Moving to a pre-calculated, read-only model removes complexity, ensures consistency, and makes it easier to understand your environment’s state quickly.
Consistent data. Clear insights. Faster decisions.
