ControlUp Delegated Permission Configuration for Automation and Triggers

Posted on November 4, 2022

The user suggested delegation of permission for automation and triggering of ControlUp resources. This is a current feature request, but there is no ETA at the moment. Looking at the Security Policy in ControlUp 8.6.5, it’s possible to create a new role with a selection of permissions and per script, define the folder role that can run different scripts. The user was also looking for a read-only option for incident triggers and hoped it would be available soon.

Read the entire ‘ControlUp Permission Configuration for Automation and Triggers’ thread below:

It would be nice to have delegated permission configuration for automation and triggering. This would allow ControlUp “power users” to create or view the configured triggers not being a CU admin. It is quite important in Enterprise space when if we want to encourage a dozen IT teams to adopt advanced monitoring and automation.

This can already be done as far as I know. I can build a security permission with only. The rights to work with script actions.

That’s great. ControlUp Support advise me today this is a current feature request in future releases of ControlUp but there is no ETA at this time. #00080874

Can we get connected offline to get the required permission configuration?

To double check : are you talking about Realtime DX or Edge DX?

No, on premises 8.6.5

So if look in the security policy I can create a new role that only has a selection of these permissions

and than per script you can define per folder what role is allowed to run what scripts

so now I have a role power users that only has these permissions unless they are also member of another role

so in the ticket I see you also asked for read-only and that’s indeed something we cannot do at the moment but we can certainly give permissions to work on triggers only without needing everything

I will ask the support engineer to update you 🙂

Yes, you are absolutely right. You helped me bring back some old memory. I should’ve checked myself. 🙂 The option “View Incident Triggers” (read only) will be an important permission for visibility and validation based on the new RACI. Hope it will be available soon.
