Setting up Alert for Remote On-Prem Servers in ControlUp

Posted on December 6, 2022

Several users asked about creating an alert to notify them if two on-prem servers are offline longer than 10 minutes. It was suggested to set up a script to check the servers and additional metrics every 10 minutes, run a Scout to test ports for the service, or use the ‘System Down’ trigger in Console (RealtimeDX). A brainstorm session was organized for the next day to further discuss the issue.

Read the entire ‘Setting up Alert for Remote On-Prem Servers’ thread below:

Dear community, we have 2 critical on-prem servers running at remote locations for which I want to setup an alert to notify me if on of these servers is offline longer than 10 minutes.

when creating an alert I need to target these hostname with the "OS_Info" data index, which has no index field for the online status. I haven’t found the correct data index for the online status. However I’m only able to use one data index in an alert.

I’ve scrolled through this channel but didnt find a related thread. Does anyone know how to create this alert properly ?

@member @member @member any idea?

@member So these 2 critical on-prem servers have the EdgeDX agent installed? You could write a script that checks these servers (and additional metrics) and have it run every 10 mins (filter in the top of the script for hostname to run on, so the other machines do not duplicate things like this. If you want we can have a session to brainstorm?

Hi yoni and Peter, thanks! @member yes those 2 servers have the agent running. A brainstorm session would be nice, do you have a bit of time tomorrow ?

Will sent you my agenda link in a PM

Why not adding a Scout to test not just the server but the ports for the service it is meant to provide?

this is for our SQL server ….

Why not use „System Down“ trigger in Console aka RealtimeDX?

@member System Down events would trigger a lot on endpoints. But yes, in RealTimeDX we have this ny default in the system👍

For sure, but if you create some conditions it should be doable…
