Can the ControlUp Solve web console connect to a machine with a pre-installed agent, or is the legacy console necessary?

Posted on May 15, 2023

A user asked if the Solve web console will allow users to add new machines with an already-installed ControlUp agent, which would replace the current "Add Computers" configuration step. It was mentioned that a new version of ControlUp will have changes to the agent deployment process that will make this step less relevant. As an alternative, the support page https://support.controlup.com/docs/euc-synchronization-with-universal-sync-script provides a PowerShell script to sync Virtual Machines, though this is subject to customers’ security concerns.

Read the entire ‘New Features Coming for Connecting to Machines with ControlUp Agent’ thread below:

Curious if the ability to connect to a new machine that has the agent already installed will be exposed to the solve web console, or if we will always have to open the legacy console for that step..

The monitors are what connect to the agents for Solve. Monitors always attempt to reconnect to any disconnected agents every 5 minutes.

In the longer term, we will indeed add the ability to add new machines via Solve. having said that, we are working on some dramatic changes to the CU agent deployment / Monitor Cluster registration process in the upcoming v9.0, these changes will make the “Add Computer” configuration step less relevant, stay tuned…

That was the answer i was looking for Yoni.

@member the issue i am looking to solve is adding additional VMs to an MCS VM group. They all have the agent installed (gold image) but getting the monitors/solve to see they are not agentless requires you to open the legacy console and run “add machines”…

You need to implement this. https://support.controlup.com/docs/euc-synchronization-with-universal-sync-script

I don’t think i’ll get my cyber sec team onboard with a service account running unrestricted powershell scripts.

I’ve yet to have a customer reject the sync script due to security concerns but each customer is different. This is the answer until this functionality is added to the console.
