ControlUp Edge DX – SIP Agent Installation and Upgrades

Posted on January 23, 2026

Users discuss if it is okay to install the ‘ControlUp Edge DX – SIP Agent’ on the monitor servers to see the same type of data as endpoints. It is recommended to have the cu4vdi agent installed on the monitor servers for a fuller picture of the environment. Also, it is possible to upgrade existing clients to a newer version using the PowerShell module. The two different agents, sipagent and cuagent, are discussed and it is noted that detailed metrics can be found in the VDI tab. A call can be set up to answer any further questions.

I’m not sure why I never thought about this, but is it okay to install the ‘ControlUp Edge DX – SIP Agent’ on the monitor servers to see the same type of data we get when we install it on our endpoints?

not sure if we have tested it but in theory it should be no problem. You do also want to have the cu4vdi agent on it though so the data would be double

If it’s never been tested, then I’ll pass for now. I’ll see if we have cu4vdi installed and see what type of data that provides, and if it is similar to what we see from our endpoints.

it’s best practise to have the monitor added to the vdi org and agent deployed

It is standard the install the VDI agent on the monitors. You can install the VDI agent basically on any server infrastructure it not just for citrix or horizon.

Very good to know. Thank you.

I found having it on the File servers, DB servers etc… key to seen the full picture of an environment

Question along the same lines: I want to upgrade existing clients to a newer version using our endpoint management tool. Do I still need to pass the AUTHKEY and RegistrationKey in the switches, or is simply executing msiexec.exe /i "ControlUpAgent-net48-x64-9.1.0.751-signed.msi" /qn /norestart enough?

not needed for updating, you can also use the powershell module to install updates

Did not know that. Would you have an article or something that I can read on how to do it via PowerShell?

Just want to make sure that everyone is aligned: today there’s 2 different agents, sipagent (for the desktops module) and cuagent (for VDI). Both are being discussed in this thread. There is probably not a lot of reasons why you want to install sipagent on your monitors. There also are detailed metrics provided already in the VDI tab in DEX. I think there’s a monitor section accessible from the tree view

@member DM me if you want and we can setup a call next week at some point

this if u have not had the answers u need

I’m good to go. Thank you for the offer.
