How to Check if a Horizon Session is Using TCP or UDP in ControlUp for VDI

Posted on November 26, 2025

A user asked if it was possible to see in CU4VDI if the Horizon session protocol was based on UDP or TCP. Another user confirmed that this information is not available in Horizon’s protocol/session metrics or in ControlUp, but can be found using netstat, Wireshark, or log files on either the client or agent. They also mentioned that the tool "Horizon Performance Tracker" can show this information, but the user did not have access to a Horizon environment to check.

Read the entire ‘How to Check if a Horizon Session is Using TCP or UDP in CU4VDI’ thread below:

Is it possible to see in CU4VDI if the Horizon session protocol is based on UDP or TCP?

Seems there is no Hz* Metric which is showing if TCP or UDP. I "just" see "Protocol" which shows me "BLAST".

I’ve looked at this before and as far as I can tell we don’t show this currently.

I also tried to find a way to capture this from the VM. But couldn’t find a reasonable way to do this.

Do you know of a way? Maybe I missed something

Did a ChatGTP on this

you can see whether BLAST is using TCP or UDP, just not through Horizon’s protocol/session metrics (and therefore not in ControlUp).

But you can check it directly on the endpoint, on the client machine, or via the network.

Short Answer

Yes — you can absolutely see TCP vs UDP for BLAST, but not from Horizon’s API.

Use netstat, Wireshark, or log files on either the client or agent.

Thank you guys.

I know that there is a tool called "Horizon Performance Tracker" which is a GUI tool showing those kind of information so I am pretty confident that there have to be something in WMI or maybe performance counters showing some stuff.

Unfortunately I have no access to a Horizon environment on my own to check…
