How to create a ControlUp Custom Dashboard focused on User Experience Metrics

Posted on February 3, 2023

Customers have asked for dashboard metrics related to user experience (such as Remote DX data) but the available metrics are limited to session level metrics or folder-level aggregated values. This has been noted and discussed with ControlUp, and users are waiting for updates. ControlUp Academy can be found at https://cuacademy.controlup.com/.

Read the entire ‘ControlUp Custom Dashboards Limited with User Experience Metrics’ thread below:

Hu Guys. I need to put some Dashboard to get in solve for a presentation in about two weeks. The need to be focused around User Experience and suggestions on how best to buld these dashboards

One of the custom dashboards we have in one of our demo environments is this one. It has a mix of different widgets that show metrics and levels that could affect the overall user experience. One of things that always helps is using descriptive labels for the widgets. Hope this helps with inspiration

thanks @member

Is the Remote DX data coming to the dash boards soon?

how dose that look

Like it. Good question about the remote DX data. Currently not at my desk, but do you see client device score anywhere in the widget setup (session metric I believe)

not seeing it ubder session and noughting thee for client

There is no session object for reporting though is there? Which kind of makes sense as you’d have to add a widget for each session you’re interested in

Average client device score would be nice, the top 5 poorest device scores, Sam i could say for Wifi, and each ofthe diferent latencys

hard to do a user expereince dashboard with out them#

@member can you pls check next week and update if we have some Remote DX folder level metrics that can be exposed via custom dashboards in Solve?

@member Thanks

Hi @member, unfortunately all the Remote DX metrics are session level, which means they are not available trough Custom Dashboards because sessions are dynamic. @member – Please notice the request to add Folder-level Remote DX metrics.

@member didn’t notice that there was no session level Metrics on the dashboard. Going for what customers are asking for in the recent months around end user experience and DEX scores I would think this would be important. For example i have a meeting in two weeks were the customer is asking for dashboards specific to End user experience they say they are not finding the value in just machine metrics on the dashboards and in reports they can send to executive level. I no new details are coming in reports and that area will improve but I think the dashboards missing a trick they could be a massive hit on the DEX score area.

@member “not available trough Custom Dashboards because sessions are dynamic” can’t follow this line. are not all metrics Dynamic?

You can tell solve you want metric on the folder table: finance folder. Or the folder table: HR folder.

Folders are relatively static.

Sessions are pretty ephemeral. An average session only lasts 8 hours.

Hence why there is no session object for dashboards.

But there’s roll up for sessions stress level. I can see having some type of roll up number for client device scores could be a useful addition

there has to be away to give session info on a dash board.

There are some session-related metrics available in the Custom Dashboards, but all of those are coming from the folder level as an aggregated value. (like Total avg. logon duration for sessions under a specific machine/folder, number of sessions, etc.)

I agree that adding Folder-Level Remote DX Metrics might be helpful, I will discuss it with @member and I’ll make sure to keep you updated. Thanks @member!

@member thanks i would be very interested

that’s kind of what I would love to put together but not possible with current historical data available a very high level executive report @member

they would also be perfect in a dashboard fotrmat
