A user asked about creating a trigger for when a machine goes down, and was having trouble getting the alert emails. Suggestions included verifying the machine was up when creating the trigger, killing the agent process, using a script to run checks for down machines, and rebooting the monitor server. It was also suggested to check the incident tab for the event trigger, use a custom trigger with an action to send an email, check the in-ram DB, and get the logs to support for review.

Hi, every! I need to help with a Triggers. I create a simple alert for machine down using a template from console. I set to Any of the Above on record a incident, select all scope from all days, and the follow up is send email to me. I testing on my enviromment but don’t receive the e-mail of alert. Does anyone know what can it be?
Hey Lucas. Was the machine up when you created the trigger and went down afterwards? Triggers only fire on state changes after the trigger is created. As in, machines already down when the trigger was created won’t cause the trigger to fire.
Kill the agent process to simulate also how long have to told the trigger to wait before alerting
i prefer to us this and trigger a script to run checks to see if there is down or not
@member The machine was on when I activated the alert. And I tested it by turning it off, and then I tested it by stopping the service. But I don’t receive the alerts, I’ve already checked with my administrator if there is a block on my email but there isn’t.
can u see the event trigger in the incidents tab
I recreating the alert, now, when i stop the service i receive the e-mail. But, when i shutdown the machine i don’t receive the e-mail 😔
Try rebooting the monitor server
@member I create a custom trigger with your trick. But the action, i put to send a email to me. Would it work that way?
Might be issue with in ram db
Yes it would but error dosnt mean the server is down best to use with script even to ping or test net connection
Or query if cuagent service is started
computer down triggers should just work though. Best to reach out to support
agree with Denis if one trigger not working might be same with others better getting the logs to support forthem to review
