Understanding Cross Site Association in ControlUp

Posted on November 9, 2023

When the delivery group is in another datacenter, it may have its own ControlUp monitor which the EUC view only allows one site per EUC site. RT shows information but Solve does not. It is verified that the monitor is connected and available, but the user needs "cross site association" — a setting to allow the monitors to share data between each other. Enabling this feature increases network utilization and has to be done manually. For more information, the user can see the Multi-Site Association Feature at https://support.controlup.com/docs/multi-site-association-feature.

does anyone know why RT shows information but Solve does not? In this particular example, the delivery group is in another datacenter, so it has its own controlup monitor. It is specified in the folder view. I cant specify it in the EUC view because it only allows me to assign one site per EUC site . so in RT console, if i goto the folder view it displays Citrix DAAS stats. In solve, it does not

I would verify in the monitor console that the monitor is connected to them properly and is available.

you can see it lets me pick the "Chile" site in the folder view, but not EUC

yep the Chile site looks ok

one moemnt, I will show a picture of what I mean

Excellent, question you gave, yea, all the information looks fine. I will poke the support team and see if this should be a ticket

You need cross site association

Let me grab a screenshot

Monitors do not send data across (ControlUp monitor) sites. That’s by design as the whole intent of sites is to limit data transfer between sites.

So in your case:

• Citrix Cloud data is in the default site

• Agent data (CPU, etc) is in the Chili site

• Monitors cannot combine that data. As that would require sending data across sites.

The console doesn’t care about monitor sites.

With the setting above, you tell the monitors it is okay to share (some) data. As much as is needed to combine the different source of data. Like Citrix and agent data.

ah! i wondered what those little checkboxes did

Do note. That enabling ~cross site~ Multi-Site Association will increase the network utilization between those monitors.

🐿️

yeah that site is like on a US Robotics 56k modem, which is why i put a CU monitor there
