Widget Wednesday: Turning dashboard insights into actionable alerts
This week’s Widget Wednesday introduces a new feature designed to make monitoring easier and faster, Create Alert directly from widgets.
Instead of building alerts separately, you can now create them directly from the data you’re already visualizing, reducing setup time and improving response to critical metrics.
What’s new in this episode:
Create alerts from any widget:
Users can now open the options menu (three dots) on any widget and select Create Alert. This launches a setup window, allowing alerts to be created directly from the metric being viewed, such as average free memory.
Pre-filled alert configuration:
The alert creation process is streamlined with key details automatically populated, including the data source and selected metric. This reduces manual setup and helps ensure accuracy from the start.
Flexible alert conditions:
Users can define thresholds based on their needs. For example, creating an alert when free memory drops below a specific value allows for proactive monitoring of system performance.
Integrated actions and workflows:
Alerts can be connected to additional actions such as:
- Scripts
- Service tickets
- Webhooks
- Control workflows
This enables automated responses and better operational handling when conditions are met.
Works with single and multiple metrics:
The feature supports both individual metrics and multi-metric views. When used with grid-based data (such as app crashes, freezes, and hangs), the system automatically includes relevant metrics, which can then be refined by removing unnecessary data points.
Customizable and adaptable:
Users can tailor alerts by adjusting included fields, ensuring that alerts focus only on meaningful criteria and avoid unnecessary noise.
Why it matters:
This feature closes the gap between visualization and action. By allowing alerts to be created directly from widgets, it simplifies monitoring, reduces setup complexity, and helps teams respond faster to important system events.
See it. Alert on it. Act on it.
