Getting Started with Securely Exporting ControlUp Metrics

Posted on December 5, 2023

A user asked if a ControlUp Solve dashboard can be published externally without authentication; it’s not possible for security reasons. Alternatives include exporting metrics with PowerShell and HTML and using the Power Platform, or leveraging ControlUp DEX with its username/password authentication. More information on ControlUp DEX can be found at https://support.controlup.com/docs/get-started-with-the-new-dex-platform.

Read the entire ‘Getting Started with Securely Exporting ControlUp Metrics’ thread below:

Is there any way to publish a Solve dashboard to be accessible without authentication and for example only secured by a source IP?

no that’s not possible for security reasons. What I usually do is use powershell to export metrics from a monitor and build an html dashboard with that data

pswritehtml is very useful if you are terrible at creating html yourself like me

There was a recent blog post by ControlUp on integrating with the power platform. Could that be used maybe?

That was for edge dx but yes you could use the same powershell module to export data and visualise it in powerbi (the exporter for the stress calculator is a good method to get those metrics or to get started)

I‘m asking because I‘d like to show a dashboard on our big screen in the NOC. Now we have SSO enabled for Solve which makes it hard to login via the digital signage system we use. I guess if SSO is enabled there is no option to login via username/password and avoid the IdP?

What about using DEX for this scenario? You can use the SVC account with username/password in Solve and DEX for SAML. Or Vice Versa. Just a suggestion.
