ControlUp DEX Portal: Missing Features and Limitations

Posted on January 17, 2026

A discussion about the missing features and limitations of the DEX Real-Time Portal compared to the classic ControlUp Real-Time Console. Users share their experiences and preferences, including the ease of reading and filtering events and the lack of real-time data in the DEX portal. Some suggest separating data into different tabs for better troubleshooting, while others note that some columns in DEX show no data for the same server. A suggestion is made for a session with the product manager to improve understanding and workflow of the DEX portal.

💬 What Are Your “Missing Gems” — And What’s Holding You Back from Using the DEX Real‑Time Portal Fully?

Hey :homerdance::homerdance::homerdance:

I’ve been reflecting on how long so many of us have lived inside the classic ControlUp Real‑Time Console and on calls with customer I see it it is still used massively. It shaped our workflows, our troubleshooting style, and even the way we think about real‑time data. Over the years, we each found our own little “gems” — those features that just clicked and made our day easier.

For me personally? 👉 The grouping feature in the Real‑Time Console was my gem.

I loved it. I used it constantly. It made complex troubleshooting feel simple and visual, and honestly… I miss it a lot.

As more people explore and adopt the DEX Real‑Time portal, I want to have a good old chat between long‑time console users and those who have already embraced DEX.

So I want to hear from you: 👉 What’s your missing gem — that one thing from the classic console you still wish you had in DEX?

If that one gem is missing have you found away in the DEX Real‑Time Portal to preform it in a different way? 🤞

It could be big or small:

• A workflow you mastered

• A layout or view you rely on

• A specific action

• Something subtle that made you fast or confident

And just as important: What’s holding you back from using the DEX portal fully for real‑time data?

• Is it a feature gap?

• Muscle memory?

• How data is presented?

Or maybe just how your team works today? Plus, here’s something I’m genuinely curious about: Since configuration still has to be done in the classic console,

👉:skin-tone-3: Is that influencing your decision to stay in the console for real‑time work?

Are people sticking with what they already are used to?

🤝 Calling both new and veteran users:

I’d love for this to become a real conversation between those who’ve used ControlUp for years and those who jumped straight into DEX.

• What do you love?

• What do you miss?

• What keeps you where you are?

The events in the Real-time console are much easier to read / digest / review vs the layout using the DEX portal. Frankly, the events in the DEX portal as it currently stands are of no use as its too hard to filter on a deployment or a set of servers and way more difficult to see commonalities of events across your fleet.

Secondly – For VDI specifically, the data displayed in DEX is not "real-time" per say, like it is in the real-time console. Which can be problematic if you’re trying to troubleshoot something "real-time".

Third – The view in VDI is limited to 100 devices per page. When you have thousands of devices having to go page by page is time consuming and troublesome. I can look at everything I have in 1 view, select everything and run a script across the entire fleet if i want to in the real-time console, thats not possible in DEX as I understand it.

Fourth – Some of the columns in DEX show no data, while in the real-time console they are filled in. One example is the "PVS vDisk File Name", I can see the data in the Real-time console but DEX its blank for the same server for that column.

I still miss the historical reports of ControlUp Insights, its still superior to the way the same report / data is presented in DEX.

Thanks @member love your feedback

How would you solve this one, what makes it better?

Let me see everything in a single pane and scroll like we can in the Real-time console?

if there was a limitation that prevented that (don’t if there is) is there another option that would make it better

@member Maybe a session on the new events with PM might help with this. Something similar to widget Wednesday. They are different to what was before so some content on how to get the best out of them and show if we can some of the development. :homerdance: might be some best practice stuff that can be done when setting up the events to work and flow better.?

@member i was of the same thought on this. Before joining CU i was with a MSP and found setting more preset and having them open in different tabs allowed to see an trouble shoot better. I could get more date on the screen were in the old console i had to jump between data. Could not have say machine data and session data on the screen at same time.

@member this one I’d love to take offline with you. this should not be the case,

@member again thanks i love this. dose anyone have any other thoughts? Do you agree or disagree with Mike?

@member Have you found thigs that you like in the DEX portal?
