A user asked about ControlUp Academy – this is a training platform with free self-training and instructor-led content. Certifications from ControlUp are available. The Academy can be found at https://cuacademy.controlup.com/ A discussion about the transition from Solve to app.controlup.com is taking place. While the move to DEX should not remove users, it is recommended to set up DEX with SAML for an easier experience. The group memberships can be added to the RT security policy in the console. A link is provided for upgrading an existing organization. Starting in version 9.1, the console will require authentication in Dex first. It is suggested to plan for the upgrade sooner rather than later. Some users prefer Solve over Dex, but the transition is in the best interest of customers. It is possible for long-time users to continue using the RT console. The move to Dex allows for a single web interface. ControlUp’s stance on putting customers first is reiterated. A meeting is offered to gather feedback on the topic. Using SAML is considered a best practice for the improved user experience.

Please correct me if this is wrong: at my last gig I believe we started to rollout app.controlup.com and found that our old Solve users were removed during the migration. Is that still the case or am I confusing this with something else?
solve users are different from DEX users. We advise to setup dex with saml so make life tons easier. Once you go to v9 you can also use the groups returned fromt he saml provider in the security policy in the console
But the move to DEX should not remove any users from Solve though, correct @member
correct they will still be there
Gotcha, we’ll just need to recreate the users in DEX
but you won’t see them from the dex config but in the solve config (in dex)
you actually invite them to dex and can give permissions. With v9 besides the sso groups you cna also add those users to the RT security policy
Yep, I see this article now: https://support.controlup.com/docs/upgrade-an-existing-organization
From v9.1 to start the console you also need to auth in Dex first
Just want to make it clear that you can start DEX upgrade today and its not a one way street. Next week we’ll make it even more seamless by automatically moving your SAML settings to DEX.
The upgrade is low risk and I recommend you to plan for this as soon as possible
Thanks!
We are starting to use Dex for a few users but I prefer solve. I don’t have to login every time.
I wish this wasn’t a “as soon as possible “ scenario. I don’t understand the rush. Controulp historically has never forced users into a new environment. This feels much different. Not sure what’s going on behind the scenes but as a long time user it gives me pause.
To expand on my thought, allow us longtime users who are happy with the products we use (RTC) run in an LTSR scenario while the cool kids who want the new gee-whiz features can go CR
We’re retiring one web interface in favor of a different one. Not sure what the RTC has to do with it?
As far as our push to using a web based interface over our windows app, there’s various technical and business decisions that are part of that, but that’s more a question for @member
If the point doesn’t relate to the topic of the OP, maybe a separate thread is better :man-shrugging::skin-tone-2:
My point is this is the first instance I can remember where it feels to me ControlUp is putting business needs ahead of customers. Not surprisingly this is what often happens as company’s get larger.
Just my 2cents. Not worth much I know.
There’s definitely business reasons around technical debt and speed to market, but to say that that is only in the interest of ControlUp is incorrect, there’s plenty customer benefits associated with it.
This apparently is no longer the place to express feelings/opinions. Thanks for the clarification.
That’s not fair Chris. You’re more than welcome to share your feelings and opinions, but I think that I’m allowed to refute them as well, if they’re not the case.
ControlUp is growing, yes. However, ControlUp’s stance on putting customers first has not changed. So the changes around the solve interface moving to the Dex interface are done with the customer in mind
If you would like to have a meeting on this topic, happy to make myself and others available to get your input and feedback
you can ALWAYS express your feelings and opinions here @member . if you feel otherwise, feel free to approach me directly and we will sort this out. Regarding the Solve to app.controlup.com (AKA DEX) migration, it indeed has nothing to do with the RT console (you can still use it), but it will allow us to consolidate into a single web interface, to the benefit of our customers.
I am working solely with app.controlup.com (and the legacy RTC!) on a day to day basis for months now, and I think the experience is way better than Solve. you do have to use SAML, but this is a best practice anyway
waiting to hear your direct and honest feedback!
