Changes in Citrix Licensing – Impact on Usage Monitoring with ControlUp

Posted on February 20, 2026

A user shared that there will be a change in Citrix Licensing in April, with migration to the new License Activation Service. The "Citrix License Usage" report for VDI DaaS no longer displays usage count. ControlUp team is aware and investigating. It seems that both Studio and license server can’t see the usage either.

Hey all, wanted to share what I’m seeing with an upcoming change to Citrix Licensing. In April of this year, the old File based license process for on-premises Citrix deployments is being forced to their new License Activation Service. Of course, its only supported on relatively new VDA releases (2203 CU7 LTSR, 2402 CU LTSR, 2507 CU LTSR, and so on). Link (but also included a screenshot if links weird you out 😉) https://support.citrix.com/support-home/kbsearch/article?articleNumber=CTX695107 I went through that pain internally and as far as I can tell we’re fully migrated over.

That brings me to what I wanted to share, the "Citrix License Usage" report for the VDI DaaS product doesn’t seem to be able to see the usage count anymore after the upgrade. When logging into the Studio Controller or License Server on Prem, it no longer displays that value which I assume is how ControlUp was gathering it. The only way I can see the usage now is by going directly to the Citrix Cloud License Activation Portal within our Citrix account.

Not the end of the world, but something interesting nonetheless.

Hi @member we’re aware of this and actively looking into how we can tackle this. Short version is that we used WMI queries which are not returning anything with LAS now.

It’s interesting though that both Studio and the license server itself can’t see the license usage as well. It would be interesting if you could share if the Citrix Cloud License Activation Portal is properly tracking license usage though?

Oh that is interesting, it doesn’t show that historical information in the portal either. When I cutover it was just showing me the historical information prior to the migration. Interesting.

So to summarize, you’ve migrated to LAS but you can’t view license usage in any Citrix product anymore? 😄

Apparently! Haha. Its concurrent so as long as I can still see how many people are connected, we’re good! Classic Citrix.
