Posted on August 8, 2024

A user asked where to find the option for creating a new custom report under Devices. Another user suggested that it should be located under the gear icon, and if permission changes prevented the user from seeing it, they should check the DEX audit log icon on the side. The issue was resolved.

Troubleshooting VDI Module in ControlUp DEX

Posted on July 18, 2024

There were issues with getting the VDI module in DEX to work properly for the help desk team. SAML was causing issues, and a security policy needed to be set up to accept SSO users. A video was suggested and it was recommended to check a certain box in the login methods. The prompt for UPN meant a different logon method was used, so the team was reminded to use SAML. The UPN should be listed if logged on with SAML. By suppressing the other method and reminding the help desk, the issue was resolved.

ControlUp Latest GA Version for MacOS: Missing Features and Solutions

Posted on June 24, 2024

A user installed the latest GA version of ControlUp for MacOS and did the initial config for screensharing and admin control. However, they were unable to see any Installed Applications, Missing Patches, or Power Events using DEX on a Windows PC. Another user confirmed that these features should be available, and checked with a Mac developer to clarify. It turns out that Missing Patches and Installed Applications reports are not available for MacOS, and a UserVoice feature request can be helpful. The Installed Apps report supports MacOS with the latest 2.14 agent version, while only Power Events is missing. A Mac developer will be consulted for more information and the documentation will be updated.

Understanding DEX User Session Details – Explaining CPU Utilization Percentage Breakdowns

Posted on June 20, 2024

A discussion about the DEX User Session Details reports showing 2 lines on the CPU graph - 1 for computer % utilization and 1 for user %. The user was asking for clarification on what these percentages mean. Another user explained that the user % represents the portion of the CPU utilized by apps launched by the user and their desktop, while the computer % also accounts for the resources needed to keep the OS running. The discussion also touched on how these percentages are broken down on a VM with multiple CPUs assigned and the use of "host machine" in the description. It was mentioned that the computer % will also factor in the usage of other users and system processes on multi-user systems.

The Importance of Folder Structure for ControlUp Reporting Data

Posted on May 24, 2024

The ControlUp team discusses a recent folder structure change that has resulted in reporting data being split between the old and new directory. It is not possible to move the older data to the new location and there is no way to hide it from other users. The historic data will eventually drop off after a year and will only show under the year selection. Some users have found that the folder structure greatly affects their stress levels, alerts, automation, and reports. It is advised to make changes to the folder structure only for significant reasons as it can still be adjusted for minor projects without impacting the main structure of the historical data.

Troubleshooting Memory Usage with ControlUp

Posted on April 30, 2024

A user asked for assistance with a Citrix server that experienced memory usage spikes, causing the pagefile to fill and lock user profiles. They wanted to know how to identify the cause using ControlUp. It was suggested that they use the Reporting feature to see the top 5 processes using memory at the time of the incident. However, this did not provide the desired information as it could be multiple processes using small amounts of memory rather than one process using a large amount.
