Paul asked for clarification between ControlUp Edge DX and Remote DX and their use cases. EdgeDX is a standalone agent and RemoteDX is a plugin to Citrix Workspace/Horizon Client. Paul wants to get data from sessions, and tested with Mac, where EdgeDX data was visible but not data was visible in session views. RemoteDX was installed but did not show data in the session view. Further testing and a ticket may be necessary. More information on the Virtual Channel configuration can be found at https://support.controlup.com/docs/remote-dx-known-issues.

ControlUp Edge DX vs. Remote DX. Is it one or the other? Have Edge-dx on my Mac for testing and i can see data etc fine. But i (wrongly, it seems) assumed endpoint data would appear inside session lookups. Looking at the documentation it seems remote-dx fulfills that role. installed remote-dx, still no data. Do i have to remove edge-dx?
Hello Paul, No you don’t need to remove EdgeDX in order to get RemoteDX metrics. You will need to make sure that you have enabled your Virtual Channels so that your Citrix VDAs know to accept the information that are coming into them. You can learn more about the virtual channel configuration here – https://support.controlup.com/docs/remote-dx-known-issues
Once you get both configured on your Mac, you will be able to pull up the RemoteDX details from within Solve and you will notice that your system will now be in a blue color. Clicking on it will launch you directly into EdgeDX for your system.
We have the virtual channel allow list set to disabled.
Assuming we get this working, does this mean we will need both Remote & Edge DX?
EdgeDX is a standalone agent/product that works independently of ControlUp Realtime and RemoteDX. RemoteDX is just a plugin to Citrix Workspace/Horizon Client. It is not an agent.
You can actually purchase EdgeDX without ControlUp Realtime and RemoteDX.RemoteDX only works when you have an established session as it realize on a virtual channel in the protocol to pass information up from the endpoint through the established connection where the realtime agent picks up the additional metrics from the endpoint.EdgeDX is a full blown agent. It does not rely on virtual channels and remote connections so it can collect data all the time, even when the users internet/wifi is disconnected.Different products similar use cases.Tip for marketing department…most people I talk with get confused between RemoteDX and EdgeDX and how they interact (if at all) with Solve or RT console. The message has not been clear IMO and work should be done to clarify what the tools are, where they can be used, and why. Right now it is kind of a mess.
Appreciate all the replies. I may have to open a ticket. I may also need to go back to ControlUp school to understand what i should see vs what i expect to see.
Bottom line, i want to see this data. Ideally when looking at Citrix user sessions. A full end to end view. I want to see that data from Dell Wyse ThinOS clients, or IGEL devices. We are currently Dell Wyse, we are likely moving to IGEL.

Testing with my Mac I see Edge DX data. I expected to see Data from Edge DX in session views, but i do not. That seems to be a misunderstanding on my part.
I installed Remote DX because that is supposed to show data in session views. It does not. I’ll test with another device just in case, and then open a ticket.
Hi Paul, When you are in Solve and looking at your Sessions, those that are reporting in RemoteDX metrics will have a small house icon in the Client Device Score section. If you are not seeing that icon, then we are not receiving the required metrics. Please submit a ticket and we can take a look at why your device is not reporting in.
