Investigating Traffic Spikes in ControlUp Citrix VDI Environment

Posted on March 31, 2026

A user reported significant spikes in traffic in their Citrix VDI environment and suspects that ControlUp’s VDI agent may be causing it. However, they are not sure if ControlUp uses Akamai for their CDN services. Other users suggested using the command "netstat -ano | findstr akamaitechnologies" to check for any processes using Akamai. The investigation will continue.

Read the entire ‘Investigating Traffic Spikes in ControlUp Citrix VDI Environment’ thread below:

Within our Citrix VDI environment, we are observing significant spikes in traffic. Around this time, we start a large number of VDI desktops. What I’m trying to determine is whether my assumption is correct that this could potentially be caused by the ControlUp VDI agent.

As far as I know we don’t use akamai. You can lookup all cloud services we use here

Cloud Locations Used by ControlUp Products

OUR CND are usually in Azure

Akamai Technologies

• Akamai runs one of the world’s largest caching/CDN infrastructures used by major companies for fast global content delivery. [learn.microsoft.com]

• Many applications — including Microsoft products, Norton Antivirus, Apple services, and others — fetch updates and digital signatures from Akamai.

you could try this it might show the process been used to reach out.

netstat -ano | findstr akamaitechnologies

Thank you for your input, I will continue the investigation.
