Troubleshooting Chrome in a Citrix Environment: The “Sad Chrome Icon” Issue Explained

Posted on November 5, 2025

There have been reports of Google Chrome failing to load in Citrix environments, resulting in a "sad Chrome icon." This is due to a conflict between Chrome's sandbox security feature and the Citrix virtual environment. Running Chrome with the -no-sandbox command-line switch may fix the issue, but it is not recommended for a production environment. Instead, updating Chrome and Citrix components, configuring group policy objects, and checking third-party software may resolve the issue. It is also recommended to properly handle Chrome's user profile data using a Citrix Profile Management solution.

Establishing a Logon Metrics Baseline with ControlUp

Posted on September 18, 2025

A user asked about the best method for establishing a baseline of logon metrics. Installing ControlUp in the environment automatically records logon duration and allows for review of average and max times. The ControlUp Insight product, which provided a community baseline average logon duration metric, has been discontinued. To determine the fastest logon time in an environment, a Windows machine with the ControlUp for VDI agent can be set up in a specific OU. Comparing the current values to the best case would determine the potential for improvement.

Troubleshooting Missing Data on MacOS Devices in ControlUp

Posted on September 18, 2025

A team member is experiencing issues with missing data, such as Active Processes, Missing Patches, and Power Events, after installing the ControlUp agent on a MacOS device. Another team member suggests deploying ControlUp Config Profiles. It is noted that the missing patches for MacOS may not show as CU4C is not yet available for this operating system. It is clarified that the missing patches in CU4D only show if there are any Apple updates missing, and that CU4C is not linked to the Missing Patch List. More information is sought before providing an answer to the issue.

They also mentioned troubleshooting the SCM's responsiveness.

Trouble with the SIPDEVICEGROUP Environment Variable

Posted on September 13, 2025

In a discussion about the SIPDEVICEGROUP environment variable, it was suggested that the EDXDEVICEGROUP variable may be more consistent. However, when checking the configuration data, there were still blank values. A solution was found when a user rebooted a PC that was reporting a blank value. The actual variables names are either SIPDEVICEGROUP or EDXDEVICEGROUP. Additionally, the device group can also be found in C:\ProgramData\ControlUp\EdgeDx\device_group.txt.
